Is Charlie Gibson's 'World News' Really 'No World News'?

A popular TV news website (Newsblues.com) slaps ABC’s ‘World News’ with the title of ‘No World News’, often criticizing the Charlie Gibson show for its lack of reporting events from around the world. As is the case with most news programs in the U.S., 'World News' is now including more health, consumer and feel-good features along with the true news of the day. It’s most news managers belief that those stories will appeal to a larger group of women in hopes of adding them to the key 25-54 female demographic.

So, as I watched tonight to see the selected questions and answers of Hillary Clinton in the ‘Who Is…’ series, I kept this log of stories.

Omaha Mall Shooting (two packages)
Mall Safety (package)
Death of ABC News Photographer (voiceover)
Mitt Romney speech (package)
COMMERICAL BREAK
Home Foreclosure Plan (package)
NASA Atlantis Delay (voiceover)
COMMERICAL BREAK
Who Is… Hillary Clinton (package)
COMMERICAL BREAK
Baby Boom (package)
National Tree lighting (close)

In this instance, there was some major domestic news in the Omaha shooting and the foreclosure help. But for a newscast once led by Peter Jennings that gave viewers a sense of the day's domestic and international news, tonight’s show failed to deliver. I’ll check back randomly to see if we ever really get a good sense of world news.
